Google Supercharges Chromebook Plus With AI-Powered Tools and Lenovo Exclusives

0

Google has rolled out a wave of artificial intelligence features to its productivity-focused Chromebook Plus devices, aiming to transform the user experience through smarter tools and deeper integration with its AI ecosystem.

Among the key additions is a new screen selection tool that mimics the capabilities of Google Lens and “Circle to Search” on mobile. Users can now long-press the launcher key or use the screenshot tool to highlight any section of their screen, instantly triggering a contextual search. This function also enables rapid actions, like extracting text or adding events directly to Google Calendar.

New AI Writing and Visual Tools

Chromebook Plus devices equipped with the “Quick Insert” key now support enhanced functionality. With a single press, users can access AI-generated images or invoke writing assistants to help craft text across apps. The new “Simplify” feature lets users select any on-screen text and use AI to explain, summarize, or simplify it—ideal for tackling complex content quickly.

Google AI Pro Subscription Perk

In a major bonus, all new Chromebook Plus users will receive a complimentary one-year Google AI Pro subscription—a package valued at $240 annually. This premium plan includes:

  • Access to the Gemini AI app
  • Flow for AI-driven video editing
  • Whisk for transforming images into videos
  • Integration of Gemini in Gmail, Docs, and Chrome
  • 2TB of Google Drive cloud storage

Lenovo Chromebook Plus 14 Gets AI-Exclusive Features

Google is also teaming up with Lenovo to debut two exclusive AI features on the newly launched Lenovo Chromebook Plus 14. The first recommends smart organization of tabs and documents, while the second allows image editing directly within the Gallery app—such as background removal or turning elements into stickers.

The Lenovo Chromebook Plus 14 boasts an OLED touchscreen and is powered by the ARM-based MediaTek Kompanio Ultra chip. It comes in two configurations—12GB RAM for $649 and 16GB RAM for $749.
