After years of featuring its open-source Llama AI model at its Connect conferences, Meta is taking a bold step. The company is hosting LlamaCon, a fully generative AI-focused developer conference, on April 29. This virtual event will stream live on the Meta for Developers Facebook page.
LlamaCon begins at 1 PM ET / 10 AM PT with a keynote address. Speakers include Meta’s Chief Product Officer Chris Cox, Vice President of AI Manohar Paluri, and research scientist Angela Fan. The keynote will highlight advancements in Meta’s open-source AI community. It will also cover “the latest on the Llama collection of models and tools” and tease upcoming AI features.
At 1:45 PM ET / 10:45 AM PT, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg will join Databricks CEO Ali Ghodsi for a discussion. They will talk about “building AI-powered applications.” Later, at 7 PM ET / 4 PM PT, Zuckerberg will chat with Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella. Their conversation will focus on “the latest trends in AI.”
While these discussions likely won’t break major news, anything is possible. Microsoft and Meta have collaborated in the past, so their partnership could bring surprises.
The event underscores Meta’s commitment to advancing AI technology. By focusing on developers, Meta aims to strengthen its open-source AI ecosystem. This move highlights the growing importance of collaboration in AI innovation.
